Senior Tag, or How to Win $200 by Being Stalked

Written by Santi Daza

Imagine being paranoid 24/7 because 6 people are tracking you for a week, with the goal of shooting you with water. However, if you survive multiple rounds and tag more people out, you and 5 others end up with around $200 each. However, there’s a $10 fee.

Would you take the offer?

Senior Tag is only one of the many senior Darby traditions. Every year, towards the end of March, sign-ups start for the most entertaining event of the year. This year, there are over 23 teams, with 3 judges.

The excitement from Senior Tag comes from everywhere. Even before the rounds start, there’s excitement in making teams and naming them. Friend groups split up, friends go against each other and cause drama. Plus, everyone wants a funny, somewhat inappropriate name. You can check Twitter for the team names. Teams take it to Twitter to make memes about other teams, and every student follows them to catch up on the drama.

The drama only increases once the bracket is made and the rounds start. Two teams face off for a week to tag the most people they can with water guns before the next round starts in order to move on.

It gets pretty intense during the rounds. I interviewed my friend and teammate, Hunter Bradfield.

S - How has Senior Tag gone for you so far?

H - It’s going pretty good so far for my team and me. I haven’t been stalked as much as the others, but I’ve had to strip a lot still. Stripping is the only way to be safe, and it’s annoying that I always have to do it.

S - Do you feel paranoid at all?

H - Literally yes, all the time. I don’t go to many places, but it’s crazy to always worry about going out, regardless of where you go.

S - Anything else you want to add?

H - The thing you have to do in order to succeed in Senior Tag is to always think twice. Every move needs to be smart, and that’s how you can win.

All in all, Senior Tag is definitely the highlight of Senior Year. It’s a crazy game that changes your life for however long you’re in for, as you become paranoid to go anywhere. It’s intense, fun, and definitely a great time. For those who are younger, I highly recommend participating once you’re a senior.

I don’t regret paying $10 to get stalked and to shoot people with water.
