Panther ambassadors are a group of students at Darby from different grades who want to make a difference in school and are leaders to others. Every ambassador has a project they makeup or design that they believe will help the school or benefit other students. The panther ambassadors meet every other Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. and discuss their project updates with each other, and if they need help, other ambassadors can help them. Each person in Panther Ambassadors is required to have 10 volunteer opportunities by the end of the school year that they did either outside of school or that they did to help another ambassador with their project.
For my project, I decided to create a prayer space area in the zen den of the media center where students can pray when necessary and have prayer rugs, hijabs, and prayer skirts offered to them. I’m planning on making a donation box in the media center where students can drop off any extra hijabs or prayer rugs for other students to use. My first step in this project is making posters and hanging them around the school so that people can know about my idea. I also plan on putting it on the announcements as well! After this, I plan on putting all donations in the Zen Den, so everyone is welcome to use the space to pray or reflect!
I asked another panther ambassador, Yashvi Pothrai, about her project and how it’s coming along. “My panther ambassador project is collaborating with the Jr. Panther Ambassadors over at Heritage. I hope to introduce them and aid them when transitioning to Darby’s panther ambassador program. I’m planning on reaching out to their advisor and planning some fun and immersive activities for them to participate in.”
Panther Ambassador projects are a way for students to find ideas that could benefit the school and other students with projects like a canned food drive, teacher of the month boards, and new student packages!
