The first week of September was a big week at Hilliard Darby High school as they got ready to play Davidson on Friday. At every lunch period “Beat Davidson” shirts were on sale for $10 and the lines were very long! The spirit for this game was amazing whether that’s the TikTok hype videos or Darby Barstool’s Instagram page. Last year Davidson was an away game so everyone met in the grove and walked to Davidson’s stadium, but this year is a home game so the student section should be bigger than ever.
I asked senior spirit leader Stevan Stewart a couple of questions about his experience being Spirit Leader! I asked, How do you feel about the spirit around the school going into this week's football game on Friday Vs Davidson? “Personally I feel like the spirit around the school is great for this Friday's game! Lots of people are coming and lots of people are also hyped about it. I mean why wouldn’t they of course we are gonna take the dub!” Stevan said.
When asked about his favorite part of being the Spirit Leader, Stevan said, “So far it has been a great experience being this year's Spirit Leader. One of my favorite parts is seeing the student section get hype without me even having to tell them to. Leading chants has been so fun. My favorite one is “go bananas'' because the crowd gets so hyped.”
Friday night football games are an amazing way to show school spirit and get many of the Darby students together! At every lunch period on game day, there will be Kona ice, spike ball, a dunk tank, inflatable bounce houses, and brownies as well as t-shirts being sold. Many people were outside playing games while enjoying the beautiful weather getting ready for the big game that afternoon!
As I was walking into the game the number of people I saw there was insane! I saw so many people wearing black ‘Beat Davidson’ shirts and the student section was very hyped! The game ended up being a very close game, but the Panthers ended up taking the win with a score of 7-3. Overall, football games are a great experience and I highly recommend coming out to them!
